A portion of Huntington Harbour remains closed to swimming and diving

after 500 gallons of sewage spilled in the waterway on Thursday.

The Orange County Health Care Agency closed the harbor at City Channel

at Sea Harbor and Coral Cay at Marina Bay Drive after a privately owned

sewer line at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue

became blocked Thursday morning and spilled over.

The owner of a nearby liquor store noticed the discharge from the

building's clean-out pipe and called a plumber out, said Monica Mazur,

spokeswoman for the health care agency.

Samples of the water area still show levels of bacteria above what is

deemed acceptable by the state, she said.

The area will remain closed until samples of the harbor waters are in

compliance with state bacteria standards, Mazur said.
