Newmeyer & Dillion hires new partner
Newport Beach-based law firm Newmeyer & Dillion LLP has hired Gary
F. Torrell as a partner. Torrell is a former executive vice president
and general counsel for Newport Beach-based Downey Savings and Downey
Financial Corp. Newmeyer & Dillion's announcement stated Torrell has
been assigned to the firm's Santa Monica office.
Torrell earned his law degree from the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville. His experience includes issues surrounding
creditors' rights, bankruptcy, business reorganizations and civil and
appellate litigation, according to a statement.
The firm also announced Ryan Manning, Duyen T. Nguyen and Fred L.
Wilks, have been hired as associates for the firm's litigation
practice at its Newport Beach headquarters. Manning studied law at
the University of San Diego and served as a judge advocate in the
Marine Corps. Wilks and Nguyen earned their degrees at the UCLA
School of Law.
Koll acquires land from Irvine Co.
The Koll Co., headquartered in Newport Beach, announced it has
acquired 11.7 acres of Irvine Spectrum land from the Irvine Co. The
deal was announced Aug. 22, and the company stated it plans to build
47 office and light-industrial buildings.
Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2006 and
to be completed by the end of the year, according to the Koll Co. The
company expects sales of the buildings to begin in September.
