Nor forgetting a lot about this war
In response to the Leader's Mailbag letter, "Let's not forget," on
Aug. 27-28, by Stella Kilinger, that's right, let's not forget how
much the Iraq war is costing all of us.
Let's not forget how many military personnel are coming home to
inadequate health care because the Vet hospitals are so overwhelmed.
Lets' not forget Osama bin Laden. I thought he was responsible for
Sept. 11. Exactly where is he now? Let's not forget that its our job
as citizens in a democratic society to question everything. Our
president is not above the law. He must be held accountable for his
actions. Why hasn't he?
Let's not forget that the insurgents are already here and have
been for years. So why are we still fighting in Iraq? Let's not
forget what the Iraq War is really about -- revenge for a father and
an oil rich country. Are we really so brainwashed that we can't see
the injustice of it all? Why must our country continue to repeat it's
mistakes? Cindy Sheehan, as well as others, have every right to
question the president outside the safety of a military base. It's
time for Bush to step up to the plate and admit he is fighting a
losing battle. Its time for all of us to demand some answers from
him.

Council members' attendance should matter
Regarding the Aug. 27-28 editorial, "Council needs to move on,"
replacing Stacey Murphy should not be dependent on her guilt or
innocence, but rather on the council's rules for attendance. How many
council meetings is a member allowed to miss before action is taken?
Just as there are rules for principals and teachers, etc., there
must be official rules for council members. Someone should take time
to research this matter.
