* The city of Newport Beach will need about 1,500 volunteers to help

put flowers on its float for the Rose Parade. Transportation plans

are still being finalized, but buses may be available to take

volunteers to the float building site in Duarte.

Workers will be needed in late November and the week between

Christmas and New Year's Day. Schools, churches families and other

volunteer groups are welcome, but children must be at least 12 years

old. To sign up as a volunteer, visit the city centennial website,

o7www.newportbeach100.comf7.

* You can also put a part of yourself on the float by buying a

flower vial. For $5, the city will put your name on a vial that holds

a rose in water. About 50,000 of the vials will decorate the float.

Vials can be purchased at the recreation office at Newport Beach City

Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd.

* For the bigger spenders, seats on the float are available for

$25,000. Between eight and 10 people will ride on the float, and two

seats already are filled. Call (949) 644-3158.
