As Huntington Beach high school seniors prepared to graduate this week the vast majority of them had higher learning on their minds.
Edison High School seniors are "a terrific group of young people who will do great things," said John Elliott, assistant principal.
And they'll likely be doing those great things in college.
Edison administrators surveyed 456 graduating seniors. Of those, 177 planned to attend a four-year college, with 55 attending 12 California State Universities, 59 moving on to eight University of California schools, 29 considering enrolling in 19 private schools and 34 wanting to go to 22 colleges out of state.
According to the survey, 12 junior colleges are in the plans for 260 Edison graduates.
Five of the surveyed students will attend vocational schools and eight have plans to enter into the military. Six have plans other than continuing their education.
Edison's graduation ceremony is at 4 p.m. today on campus. Marina High School is also having its graduation at 4 p.m. today on campus.
In all, about 1,780 students were scheduled to graduate from Huntington Beach, Edison, Marina and Ocean View high schools. Statistics on the plans for all of the schools in the Huntington Beach Union School District won't be available until later this summer.
