The city will hold lifeguard tryouts at 8 a.m. Sunday at Lifeguard Headquarters, 103 Pacific Coast Hwy. Those who pass the performance exam will be eligible for future consideration based on time results. People who participated in tryouts in past years will not be eligible for employment unless they pass this year’s exam.
Would-be lifeguards must be 17 by June 1; proof will be required. Their vision must be 20/40 or better, uncorrected, in both eyes, and be in excellent health. A pre-placement medical exam, drug screening and Live Scan fingerprinting will be conducted after an employment offer is made.
Lifeguards must be available for the entire summer season. They must perform ocean rescues, help prevent marine accidents and perform first aid as needed. Candidates must have the ability to swim to and rescue swimmers who may be in danger.
