My favorite pet that I rescued

July 10, 2009|By Janice Wilson

After scanning the pet section on my local Craigslist, I noticed an ad about a family moving and not wanting to take their female and male Basset Hounds with them.  I was unsure so I waited to see if the ad would be published again, and sure enough, it was, but now only for the male dog.  The owner's had already adopted out the female whom the male had been with all his life.  I made contact from the ad and found out that he was in his second home after being given up by his owners of four years.  Both new homes had just given him 2 days to adjust and had had enough of him howling and barking all day and night.  My husband and I decided to give Fred a try, and make a comitment to give him lots of love and attention while he  adjusted to his difficult circumstances.  After 3 days and a lot of patience, Fred has come around and settled in nicely with our family.  We are taking him on vacation with us next week and are here for him for the long haul.   He is a wonderful dog and gets along great with everyone that he meets.
