H.B. wins Riptide tourney

The Huntington Beach girls' softball Under-8 gold team won the Riptide Tournament in Oceanside last weekend, defeating South Huntington Beach, 5-1, in the final.

Katelyn Drake pitched the final game for Huntington Beach. Jaelyn Operana also saw time on the mound during the tournament. Offensively for Huntington Beach, Marlene Friedman and Kami Petit each hit home runs. Natalie Dorame, Shayla Thomas, Kelly Ryono, Megan Ryono, Ashley Jorgenson, Renee Wolf, Maddie Botts and Emily Grey, all made key contributions during the team's run to the tournament title.

Water Polo

The Goldenwest Water Polo Club fifth/sixth-grade team defeated Long Beach Shore, 10-8, Sunday at the Brea Olinda Water Polo Tournament. Grant Lee came up with several saves in goal for Goldenwest and second-graders Emily Tucker and Randall Macias put in a great effort to help the team.


Ocean View Little League Minor B Division

Rockhounds 18, Sea Dogs 6: Manager Chad DiMarco's Rockhounds won the Minor B division championship by defeating the Sea Dogs on Sunday.

Edward Pelc and Harrison Dean scored in the opening inning to give the Rockhounds a 2-0 lead. Jakob Fell led the offense and Lukas David threw the first two innings and Nicholas Lambert threw the final three for the Rockhounds.

Sea Dogs 10, Rockhounds 9: The Sea Dogs scored two runs in the sixth inning to pull out a one-run victory Saturday in the series opener.

Minor C Division

Threshers vs. Lugnuts: The Lugnuts hosted the Threshers in a game where the score wasn't kept.

Offensively, Sean Headley singled for the first run batted in of the game, Tristan Kennedy doubled twice, Alec Muirhead doubled and singled and Lucas Pantel, Nate Skorheim and Sam Mejia each earned their own RBIs.

On defense, Headley tried his hand at pitcher in the third inning and allowed only one single before striking out two and Jimmy Campbell offered a big assist by catching a pop fly at second base to end the inning. Kennedy pitched the fifth inning and got three strikeouts to end the game.
