Surfing has always meant something more to me. That, the beach and the ocean has always been the one constant path in my life, a best friend, teacher and so much more. Surfing has the power to change people. Our beaches and waves can serve as playgrounds for every generation of children, as they always have been for me.
When I was a kid growing up in Laguna Beach, I had two best friends. One still is today, and the other went down the wrong path: drugs. Though I had great parents who taught me right from wrong, sometimes you need more, and for me, I always had surfing to come back to.
My life has always been about surfing, and now it's all about giving back to the sport, our beaches and our oceans. This weekend, Project Save Our Surf will be having a 24-hour surf-a-thon from noon Saturday tonoon Sunday at the Huntington Beach Pier. A full 24 hours of exciting surfing with celebrities, musicians, professional athletes and, most importantly, those who care about our oceans and beaches.
