Edison High quarterback Matt Viles was awarded the offensive MVP on Friday at the 51st annual Brea Lions Orange County All-Star football game at Orange Coast College.

Viles guided the South on a late drive that nearly chewed up 7:38 of the fourth-quarter clock that allowed his team to hold on for a 24-21 victory over the North. Viles finished the game 11 of 13 for 98 yards with a touchdown.

Viles went four for five on the late drive that started at the South six-yard line and stalled near midfield in the final minute.

The North was unable to sustain a serious drive in the closing seconds.

The South won the game for the second straight year and trimmed the North's all-time lead in the series to 25-23-3.

Ocean View eliminated in American Legion tourney: The Ocean View summer league baseball team dropped its first two games and was eliminated from title contention at the American Legion tournament.

The Seahawks fell, 8-0, to Mission Viejo in their opener on July 15, then was eliminated, 9-1, by Capistrano Valley. Both games were played at Glover Stadium in Anaheim.

Ocean View coach Shane Borowski used a "conglomeration" of pitchers in both games. The Seahawks were shaky on defense and committed eight errors in the two games.

"Those games were good for us," Borowski said. "Playing teams like that really showed us how much better we can and need to be.

"We are still riding high from our CIF championship, and it feels great. But if we want any chance at competing for one another, which I believe all the kids do, we will really have to start over and get back to the daily grind of getting better. That's what our program is about – learning and getting better."

Ocean View and Valencia from the North division, and Mission Viejo and Capo Valley from the South, competed at the tournament.
