Sixteen teams start converging at the Ocean View High gym Monday for the start of the Ocean View Hawk Holiday Classic girls’ basketball tournament.

The event runs daily through Dec. 18 and features some of the top girls’ teams in Orange County.

Below are the opening round games for Monday and Tuesday:

4:20 p.m.: Long Beach Wilson vs. Mission Viejo

5:40 p.m.: University/Irvine vs. Whittier Christian: University has started its season 3-0, its most recent victory a 55-42 win over Marina Tuesday. Whittier Christian finished third in its own Leon Davis Classic and owns a 49-37 win Dec. 3 over Ocean View.

7 p.m.:  Pacifica vs. Ocean View: A young Ocean View team, one that has three freshmen and two sophomores seeing plenty of playing time, went 1-3 last week at the Leon Davis Classic hosted by Whittier Christian.

3 p.m.: Fountain Valley vs. JSerra: Fountain Valley, the other local team competing for the title, is wrapping up play this weekend at its own Hoops Challenge tournament.
