Edison picked up a critical victory and Marina defeated a crosstown rival Tuesday in Sunset League girls' soccer action.

In a showdown at Laurel School in Los Alamitos, unranked Edison rallied in the second half to record a 2-1 win over Los Alamitos, the top-ranked team in CIF Division 1. Chargers Coach Kerry Crooks said it was Edison's first win over the Griffins in four years.

Los Alamitos (3-1) struck first with a goal at the 58th-minute mark. Edison (3-1) came back and tied the score eight minutes later on a goal by sophomore Karly Freeman, off an assist by Becca Ross. The Chargers scored the game-winner six minutes later when Angelisa Cortez dribbled through the Los Alamitos defense and slipped the ball in the far post for the score.

Marina made a second-half goal by Kayla Perry stand in a 1-0 victory over host Huntington Beach. Perry scored off an assist from Dena Wasielweski as the Vikings squared their league record at 2-2.

The Oilers fell to 1-3 in league.

In another Sunset game played Tuesday, Fountain Valley (0-4) lost, 3-1, to host at Newport Harbor (3-1), which is tied with Edison and Los Alamitos atop the league standings.

Ocean View improved to 2-0-1 in Golden West League play Tuesday by shutting out visiting Westminster, 3-0. The Seahawks got second-half goals from Maddie Koci, Raquel Thomas and Mikhaila Bowden.

Edison, ranked No. 1 in CIF Division 1, moved to 17-0 and 4-0 in Sunset League play by picking up victories last week over Huntington Beach (1-0) and host Newport Harbor (4-0).

Mitchell Alvarez scored on a penalty kick in the 1-0 win over Huntington and he and Tyler Smith each scored twice in Friday's win over Newport Harbor.

In two other Sunset games played Friday, Huntington edged Fountain Valley, 2-1, and Marina won, 1-0, over Los Alamitos.

Fountain Valley (0-4) took a 1-0 halftime lead on host Huntington on the strength of a goal by Steven Ryan, but Sam Hart scored twice in the second half to lift the Oilers, who picked up their first league win after suffering three straight one-goal games in league play.

Marina moved to 3-1 and delivered visiting Los Alamitos (3-1) its first league loss after its 1-0 victory. Miguel Rizo scored for the Vikings and David Elias had five saves.

Brethren Christian played reigning Academy League champion Whitney tough last Friday, but the Warriors fell, 1-0, after the Wildcats scored in the 66th minute and later in the game turned away a scoring challenge by Warriors attacker Brandon White.
