Get blown away at Drybar

Drybar finally arrived in Orange County! The popular LA-based concept, reported to be the first and original blow-dry-only bar, opened last week at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Their motto says it all: "No cuts, no color. Just blowouts, only $35."

Co-founded by hair authority Alli Webb and her brother Michael, Drybar is a chic shop with a fun bar theme (each blowout style is named after a cocktail). While you're at Drybar, enjoy healthy snacks and drinks, recharge your iPhone and watch a movie all while having your hair expertly blown out.

Drybar is a celebrity favorite stop, attracting stars including Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Zooey Deschanel and Jessica Lowndes. Rose McGowan was such a fan of Drybar that she became an investor.

Drybar is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Appointments for all locations can be booked online at http://www.thedrybar.com or by calling (310) 442-6084. It's located at Level 2, Atrium Court in Fashion Island in Newport Beach.

Surf camp over spring break

Local surf camp owner Erik Nelsen and his staff of CPR-trained surfers in Newport Beach are gearing up to teach kids how to surf and become ocean safe. In anticipation of summer, the Quiksilver Surf Camp is offering a special Spring Recess camp from April 11 to 15 for boys and girls of all abilities.

The staff will teach your child not only the basics of wave-riding, but also a balance of ocean safety, environmental activities and beach games. Your child will graduate from the program as a legitimate surf grom. The program is designed to instill a sense of passion for the sport of surfing as well as a sense of responsibility for the ocean.
