Walk-off homer lifts Hurricanes to title

Jimmy Meehan hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday to give the Miami Hurricanes a 7-6 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the championship game of the Majors Division tournament at Huntington Valley Little League.

Both teams will be representing Huntington Valley in the District 62 Tournament that begins Saturday .

The Hurricanes, who went 3-1 in the playoffs, were trailing losing until the third inning where they tied the score on a three-run double by Jared Henry. Sammy Blodgett kept the Hurricanes in the game by striking out 12 of the 17 batters he faced in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up just one hit and didn't allow a run as the teams went to extra innings.

The Hurricanes are: Jimmy Meehan, Sammy Blodgett, Nathan Goode, Jared Henry, Jacody Madrid, Ivan Marquez, Michael Marquez, Ryan McKabney, Jonathan Miranda, Camden Nucum, Hunter Pedicord and Chad Rose. The team is managed by Sam Blodgett and coaches are Carl Goode, Kurt Henry and Art Kent.

Fountain Valley Little League

Twins 4, Red Sox 0: The Twins won the best-of-three series to claim the Majors postseason championship and No. 1 bid to the District 62 Tournament of Champions .

The Twins, who won the first series game, 7-5, won the first-half title of the regular season. The Red Sox were second-half champs.

Nick Taylor led off the Twins' first inning with a walk. An out later, Riley Hanson doubled to score Taylor. With two out, Tanner Motske's two-run single scored Hanson and pinch runner Brian Allen. Hanson led off the fifth with a home run to center field.

Taylor pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed two hits and one walk and struck out six. Hanson pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up three hits, didn't allow a walk and struck out four. Offensively, Hanson doubled, homered, scored two runs and had two RBIs. Motske singled and doubled with two RBIs and Taylor singled, walked twice and scored one run.

For the Red Sox, Timmy Knowles singled twice, Jake Bitzer singled and reached base twice on errors and Ian Collins and Bryce Ash singled. Starting pitcher Parker Smith went 3 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Relief pitcher Luke Bundeson went 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two.
