Rizzo's house returns to market

Deal falls through on $949,000 Huntington Beach home owned by former Bell city manager.

The Huntington Beach home of Robert Rizzo, the embattled former manager of the city of Bell, has fallen out of escrow just days after it found a buyer.

The two-story, 3,250-square-foot home at 1935 Lake St. entered escrow Aug. 20 after a deal with a buyer was finalized, but the deal fell through Wednesday, according to Torelli Realty in Costa Mesa.

The house is now back on the market.

Bill Cuppy, Rizzo's listing agent, would not say why the deal was off or even confirm that the house had fallen out of escrow.

Cuppy has said that the house received several offers and that there were many activities surrounding the property when the deal was made, just a week after it went on the market.

Even then, Cuppy was careful with what he disclosed, saying in this market, nothing is certain.

The house, which is listed for $949,000, was heavily remodeled by Rizzo, who faces multiple corruption charges. He bought the house in 2007 for $1.13 million.

Rizzo remodeled the four-bedroom, three-bathroom and two-half-bathroom home with travertine flooring, etched glass windows and leaded glass doors.

He enjoyed top-of-the-line appliances in his kitchen, which has a Wolf commercial-quality stove, and a master bathroom with two sinks, a steam shower and a bath top lined with travertine, granite and marble under chandelier lighting. His formal dining room has a coffered ceiling and the master bedroom has a walk-in closet made of cherry wood.
