The score was tied at 2 in the first quarter and Newport went on to hold a 4-2 lead at the half. The Sailors capitalized on missed shots and turnovers by the Chargers in the second half to pull away.

"We battled Newport to the end and with the exception of a four-minute stretch in the third (quarter), we actually played them evenly," Edison Coach Diggy Riley said.

Edison takes on Sunset rival Marina at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Newport Harbor pool.

Fifth-ranked Huntington Beach ran its record to 18-3 Monday by posting a 16-4 nonleague win at JSerra. Ian Arnold scored a game-high four goals and Jovan Jeremic and Jameson Shively both scored three goals. Wes Kobel (eight) and Brandon Lucia combined for 15 saves.

Huntington opened its Sunset League slate on a winning note by defeating Fountain Valley, 19-2, on Oct. 5 at the Newport Harbor pool. Noah Harrison and John Lovat scored six and five goals, respectively, and Arnold scored three times to pace the Oilers. Nick Frens and Kyle Breznau both scored once for the Barons.

The Oilers and Newport Harbor tangle in a key league battle at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday. Fountain Valley plays Los Alamitos at 7 p.m.

Marina also made its Sunset League debut on Oct. 5. The Vikings fell, 15-2, to Los Alamitos at Newport Harbor. Kyle Ellis and Jason Choi scored for the Vikings.
