Edison is tops in tourney

Sean Myers and junior guard Josh Armstrong were named all-tournament.

Fountain Valley started the tournament red-hot, hitting 11 three-point shots in a 74-34 blowout of Bellflower. Armstrong was four of five from three-point range and led the way with 17 points and had three assists. Richartz scored 12 points, Moss 10, junior forward Sean Finley had nine points and nine rebounds, and Myers six points and four assists.

The Barons turned in a solid performance in their second game and scored a 58-38 over host Valley Christian. Myers had 13 points, six assists and six rebounds, Moss 12 points and nine rebounds and Armstrong 12 points and three assists. In their third game, the Barons blazed their way to a 46-18 lead on California and went on to score a 68-44 win over the Condors. Richartz hit four of the Barons' nine three-point shots and finished with 16 points. Junior forward Tanner Trounce was seven of 11 from the floor and scored 14 points with six rebounds, Armstrong chipped in with 11 points and Finley had nine points and eight rebounds. Myers suffered a sprained ankle in the game and sat out the second half.

Fountain Valley returns to the court next Monday to host Segerstrom in a 6 p.m. nonleague game.

Huntington Beach

The Oilers finished up pool play Tuesday on the second day of the North Orange County Championships at Sonora. They moved to 2-0 in the tournament by pulling away in the second half to defeat host Sonora, 60-54. Senior guard Rory Aldana topped all scorers with 23 points. Junior forward Harley Ruder scored 12 points and junior guard Andrew Tenbrink 11 points.

The Oilers started tournament play Monday and defeated Long Beach Wilson, 57-44. Aldana led four Oilers in double-figures with a game-best 14 points. Ruder scored 12 points and Tenbrink and senior guard Blake Skorich both scored 10 points.

Previously, Huntington went 2-2 at the El Modena Tipoff-Canyon Kickoff Classic. The Oilers got into early foul trouble against Esperanza and eventually dropped a 57-53 game to the Aztecs. Tenbrink led the Oilers with 20 points and nine rebounds and Ruder finished with 12 points and six rebounds. They also lost to San Bernardino as the Cardinals used a 12-0 run to pull away to a 72-56 victory. Ruder had 16 points and seven boards, Aldana scored 15 points, Tenbrink had 11 points and seven rebounds and senior forward Bryan Ortt had six points and 10 rebounds.
