Several local prep athletes took the next step in their educational and athletic careers Wednesday by signing a National Letter of Intent.

Below is a list of some of the signings Wednesday submitted to the Independent by local schools:

Edison: Angelisa Cortez (women's soccer, UC Santa Barbara); Bryce Campbell (football, Humboldt St.).

Huntington Beach: Nolan Biegel (football, Pennsylvania); Chris Ogilvie (football, Brown); Ramon Vargas (football, UC Davis); Noah Harrison (men's water polo, Harvard); Max Schultz (men's water polo, UC Santa Barbara); Lindsey Walter (field hockey, Columbia); Alexis D'Zmura (women's soccer, University of the Pacific); Mike Marsh (men's soccer, SOKA University of America); Shane Grace (baseball, Hawaii); Lou Payetta (baseball, Fresno State); Brett Urabe (baseball, UCLA).

Marina: Alex Waked (football, Holy Cross); Sandy Simmons (softball, LSU); Amanda Cordeiro (softball, Chico St.); Raquel Rosas (women's volleyball, Air Force Academy); Natalie Kridel (women's volleyball, Sacred Heart).

Mater Dei: Bret Bonanni (Huntington Beach, men's water polo, Stanford); Corey Hammond (Huntington Beach, track and field, Columbia).



Girls' Soccer

Ocean View continues to lead the Golden West League pack after winning, 2-1, Tuesday at Orange. Freshman forward Jade Kratovil and junior midfielder Danny Dapello scored goals and senior midfielder Aleanna Vargas assisted on both scores.

Seahawks Coach David Deaton called it a "tough game," which came one day after his team defeated Segerstrom, 2-1.

"Our passing and movement was beautiful to watch," he said of Tuesday's game.

In Monday's win at Segerstrom, senior midfielder Kelley Dooley and senior forward Melissa Cooley scored and Vargas and Dapello each had an assist. Freshman keeper Malia Hayes had nine saves.

In Sunset League games played Tuesday, two matches — Edison at Fountain Valley and Los Alamitos at Huntington Beach — ended in 1-1 ties. The third match saw Marina fall, 1-0, at Newport Harbor.

Alyssa Raphael scored off an assist from Kasey Reeve in the second half as Fountain Valley rallied to tie against Edison in a game that went to overtime.. Allison Marlow had 11 saves for the Barons, who are 1-5-1 in league. Edison is 4-1-2 in league.

Laura Bermel scored off a corner and goalie Justice Walker turned in 10 saves to help Huntington earn a tie against Los Alamitos. The Oilers are 2-3-2 in league.
