Marina and Ocean View took different routes to get there, but both the Vikings and Seahawks are moving onward in the CIF Southern Section boys' soccer playoffs after picking up dramatic second-round victories on Tuesday.

Sunset League-champion Marina (18-2-6) is in the Division 1 quarterfinals by advancing, 6-5, on penalty kicks past host Thousand Oaks, after the teams failed to score a goal in regulation. Senior keeper David Elias came up with 10 saves for the eighth-ranked Vikings, who take on top-ranked Servite on Thursday. The Friars (23-3-3) knocked off Bell Gardens, 3-1, on Tuesday.

Marina had moved on to the second round after eliminating El Toro (South Coast League No. 3) on Friday, 3-1. Junior Grant Mayeaux scored twice, senior Josue Medina scored once with an assist, senior Alex Witkowski had an assist and Elias had two saves.

Ocean View, the No. 3 team from the Golden West League, added to its late-season success by knocking off visiting and ninth-ranked Valencia of Placentia, 2-1, in a Division 2 game. Joel Contreras and Eduardo Garcia scored for Ocean View and goalkeeper Alberto Soriano had six saves.

The Seahawks (14-8-2), who ran their win streak to six games, face No. 2-seed Valley View (18-2-5, Inland Valley League No. 1) at 3 p.m. in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Ocean View parlayed two wins in a three-day period last week into a second-round berth. The Seahawks scored a 3-1 wild-card game victory over Centennial of Corona, and a 2-0 shutout of Southwestern League champ and 10th-ranked Great Oak on Feb. 16. Carlos Valencia scored both goals in the win over Great Oak.

Fountain Valley, the No. 3 team from the Sunset League, was eliminated from the Division 1 field Feb. 16 by South Coast League-champ San Clemente, which edged the visiting Barons, 2-1. Wade Sais scored a second-half goal and Ryan Brown recorded seven saves in the loss.
