Seahawks, Oilers move on

Huntington Beach finished in third place and Marina was fifth Monday at the CIF Southern Team Divisional at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. The Oilers move on to compete at the CIF Team Championships on Thursday at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara.

Huntington senior Jacob Schulze, Marina senior Matt Janelli and freshman Nick Swanson, and Fountain Valley junior Andre Vu will compete Monday at the CIF Individuals tournament at Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.

The Edison boys' team finished in first place and Los Alamitos surprised Edison to capture the girls' Sunset League title at league finals May 4 at Newport Harbor High. Fountain Valley was fourth, Huntington Beach fifth and Marina sixth in the boys' rankings. In the girls' standings, Fountain Valley was third, Huntington fifth and Marina sixth.

"As it always is, most championships are won at prelims, and our girls did not have the best of meets at [the May 2] prelims," Edison Coach Diggy Riley said. "We had too much too make up on Friday, but they swam really well and very fast. Our boys really showed our depth and did not let up from start to finish.

"We had multiple finalists in every event and our relays were as strong I have seen in a long time. This is arguably the fastest boys' team we have ever had."
