Court hearing for candidate pushed back

A court hearing scheduled Wednesday for Huntington Beach Planning Commissioner Tim Ryan, who is fighting DUI charges, has been postponed.

Ryan's lawyer, Todd Landgren, said he's filing additional motions regarding the City Council candidate's DUI arrest and further investigating statements that were made in the police report.

Ryan, who was arrested Jan. 28 on suspicion of drunk driving, was not in court Wednesday. Landgren would not elaborate on the statements in the police report, nor say why a further investigation is needed.

The next court hearing is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 22.

Ryan, a lawyer, pleaded not guilty in May to two charges of driving drunk and driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit, court records show.

His criminal complaint, obtained through the Orange County district attorney's office, shows Ryan was driving with a 0.20 blood alcohol level, which is two and a half times the legal limit. He was released after his arrest in lieu of $10,000 in bail.

This is the second time Landgren has requested additional time for an investigation surrounding the circumstances of Ryan's arrest and charges.

A pre-trial was originally scheduled for May 30.
