Youth Roundup: BOWO wins state division crown

Black Out White Out girls' soccer team goes 13-0 with nine shutouts for the season.

Black Out White Out, a girls' Under-10 All-Star soccer team from Region 55 (North Huntington Beach) traveled to Davis earlier this month for the AYSO Championships, and returned home with a division championship.

Black Out White scored a 3-1 win over Pleasant Hill in its tournament opener, then shut out Valencia, 2-0, in the division final. The state tournament was played March 15-16.

To reach the state tournament, Black Out White won Area and Section tournament titles to advanced to state. The team went 13-0, overall, in postseason play with nine shutouts.

The team, coached by Terence Tubbs, Holly Sjogren, Dave Weiderin, is: Jillian Tubbs, Isabella Messina, Mikayla Carman, Cora Sjogren, Kaili Manthorne, Sarah Boucher, Annika Weiderin, Sophia Doumanian and Vanessa Tapia.

Ocean View 16, Westminster 9: Jared Tipton hit two home runs and Xavier Salgado also homered as Ocean View downed the Astros.

Minor A Division

Hot Rods 12, Express 4: The Hot Rods grabbed the lead by scoring six runs over the first three innings in defeating the Express.

Aided by a groundout by AJ Hurtado and RBI singles by Nick Madole, Gavin Kells and Quentin Custodio, and a steal of home by Christopher Roberts, the Hot Rods were able to get on the scoreboard early.

Tyler LaForce of Express pitched an impressive four innings and on offense doubled and reached base three times.

Red Wings 15, River Cats 10: Matt Hernandez singled twice with two RBIs and Nick Dagarin had an RBI double for the Red Wings, who used a big third inning to get past the River Cats.

Danny Kotkosky and Hernandez both scored to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead, but a double by Michael Rubly and single by Micah Blake allowed the River Cats to draw even. In the Red Wings half of the third, Ryan Bandy drew a walk and Kotkosky singled before a hit by Hernandez brought home both runners. Alec Muirhead followed with a single and Dagarin's double scored Hernandez.

Dagarin, Aidan Daniels and Jeremy Roe singled in the fifth for the Red Wings, who increased their lead to 15-8 in the inning.

Bulls 12, Bats 3: An impressive two-way performance by Chris Soto helped lead the Bulls to a victory over the Bats.

The Bats managed just one hit off of Soto who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out nine during his three innings of work.
