Briefs: Shoot-A-thon next week at HBHS

The third annual Hoops of Hope Shoot-a-thon is May 30 at the Huntington Beach High gymnasium.

The free-throw shooting event includes live music, food and a silent auction and raffle and runs from 3 to 7 p.m. All proceeds will help support the construction of a medical center in Zambia and provide backpacks to needy children in the U.S.

Admission cost is a $5 donation at the door. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each.

Hoops of Hope is the largest free throw shoot-a-thon in the world. It is a student-created and student-led movement, in partnership with World Vision, that provides care to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Seahawks freshman baseball camp to open

The Ocean View High baseball program will run a summer camp for incoming freshman starting June 24.

The came will run three days a week through July 11. The cost is $100 per camper.

Lifeletics Baseball announces summer schedule

Lifeletics Baseball, located in Huntington Beach, has announced its 2013 summer camp schedule.

The camps, entering their 12th year, will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday starting June 24 through Aug. 16. Camp costs are: Beginning Baseball Week ($99); one week ($199); two weeks ($379). During a special promotion now underway, with the purchase of two weeks, the cost for a third week is $99.

Camp locations are in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and south Orange County (Santa Margarita and Trabuco Canyon).

Campers will work with current professional instructors, former professional players and area high school coaches. Training will involve a wide variety of drills, games and competitions. Instruction is specific, varied and fast-paced to ensure athletes learn to enjoy working hard.
