The third annual Hoops of Hope Shoot-a-thon is Thursday at the Huntington Beach High gymnasium.
The free-throw shooting event includes live music, food and a silent auction and raffle and runs from 3 to 7 p.m. All proceeds will help support the construction of a medical center in Zambia and provide backpacks to needy children in the U.S.
Admission cost is a $5 donation at the door. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each.
Hoops of Hope is billed as the largest free-throw shoot-a-thon in the world. It is a student-created and student-led movement, in partnership with World Vision, that provides care to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
