August 14, 2013

Tom Shields (Edison High, 2009) set two new records during the FINA Wold Cup competition last weekend in Berlin, Germany.

Shields, of Huntington Beach, set American records in the short-course 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly events. He set the 200-meter record Saturday in 1 minute 51.31 seconds. The new record came just three days after he had set the 200-meter record time of 1:51.38 during the first FINA World Cup tour stop Aug. 7 at Eindhoven, Netherlands.

On Sunday, Shields set the new record time in the 100-meter butterfly at 49.01, breaking the previous record of 49.04 set in 2004 by Ian Crocker.
