September 11, 2013|By Candice Baker

Scholarship smorgasbord: Local chefs and restaurants have joined with Golden West College for this year's Chefs for Scholarships event from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the college's student center. All attendees receive unlimited tastes from nearly 30 vendors offering everything from barbecue to sushi to lobster mac and cheese, as well as desserts, wine and beer. Kids' activities like video games, balloon art, face-painting and magic also are planned. Proceeds benefit student scholarship programs. All-inclusive admission is $45 for adults in advance or $50 at the door; for students with identification, it's $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Children ages 12 and under are free. Information: (714) 895-8316 or chefs4scholarships.com.

Sweet beginning: Creamistry, Orange County's first liquid nitrogen-powered ice cream shop, opens this week at the Crossroads shopping center, Barranca Parkway and Culver Drive, Irvine. The shop uses a flash-freezing method and premium ingredients to instantly prepare fresh, custom ice cream orders. The technique is popular in Asia. Gifts with purchase: Fill up with eight or more gallons of fuel at participating Chevron locations in Orange County, and the company will donate $1 toward classroom supplies and technology at participating schools. Visit http://www.fuelyourschool.com for a map showing participating gas stations and classrooms.

For the children: Ten percent of sales of Ritual JuiceBox's Sweet Greens juice this month purchased at the two retail locations will benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), which works with children in need. Ritual's ambassadors of the month, Jonathan Rollo and Kristi Ritchey of Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop, selected the flavor. Ritual JuiceBox is in The Camp, at 2937 Bristol St., C100-B, Costa Mesa, and at 2841 E. Coast Hwy., Corona Del Mar. Information: ritualwellness.com.
