Youth Scene: Oilers Clinic team scores convincing win

Huntington Beach Jr. All-American Football team opens season with 36-13 victory against Long Beach Jackrabbits.

Huntington Beach Oilers Clinic Division team came out strong in its first game of the 2013 Jr. All-American Football Season Saturday against the Long Beach Jackrabbits and scored a convincing, 36-13 victory at Huntington Beach High.

Jonah Del Rosario of the Oilers dominated on both offense and defense. Huntington was quick to score behind an unstoppable offensive line. The first touchdown came on a quarterback run by Nate Skorheim with solid performances by Aden Eckenwiler, Blake Gilbert, Lyrik Fata, Andrew Ancona, Joseph Vardayo, Jordan Gozon, Riley Rozenkranz and Halu Ikeda. Skorheim also laid out a perfect scoring pass to Del Rosario for the Oilers' second touchdown.

Long Beach got its offense going in the second quarter and scored but Huntington's defense stepped it up with a huge tackle by Garrett Smith and line help from Tyler Gioia, Jonathan Brown and Ethan Rumney. New Oilers Jeffrey Lindquist, Tyler Zink and Cade Carnival made second-half contributions as Huntington opened up an 18-point lead.

Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football

The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Division Gold Chargers registered their first win of the 2013 season Saturday by shutting out the visiting Norwalk Raiders, 24-0, on a warm day at Edison High.

Jack Kosick ran in the first touchdown from 11 yards out in the second quarter and Jackson Walters kicked the two-point conversion. Minutes later, and after holding off the Raiders on offense, Tanner Ciok scored on a 10-yard run with Walters kicking another two-point conversion.

Huntington took a 16-0 at the half.
