HB Green Chargers shut out Saddleback Valley

The Huntington Beach Green Chargers won their second game of the season Saturday by blanking the Saddleback Valley Chargers, 27-0, in Pop Warner Football Junior Pee Wee Division action at Edison High.

It was a homecoming game for the Green Chargers (2-1), as former players of Head Coach Dan Schoonmaker came back to show support for the coaching staff as well as the current crop of players.

Behind the solid blocking of the offensive line consisting of Seth Allen, Shawn Chisholm, Ryan Easterday, Anders Palmquist and Keilan Lefaoseu and a stingy, hard-hitting defense led by Caden Kendle, Jordan Ginnis, Zeke McCreight, Joey Gentilella, Connor Provost, Jaxon Price and Rex Campbell, the Green Chargers cruised to the win.


Easterday, playing quarterback, scored on a five-yard keeper Kendle kicked a two-point conversion to make the score 8-0. In the second quarter, Dane Despars busted a 20-yard run and Artis Coleman finished up the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run to make it 13-0 .

Phillip Overturf scored on a 10-yard run and Kendle caught the extra point pass from Easterday late in the second quarter to make the 21-0 at halftime.

After a 25-yard reception by Taj Thuemmier, Ginnis caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Rivituso and after a failed extra point conversion, the score was 27-0 in the third quarter.

The Green Chargers host the North Long Beach Panthers at noon Saturday .

Gold Chargers 26, La Mirada 0: The Gold Chargers racked up their third consecutive shutout and improved to 3-1 overall with the win against the Bruins at Edison High.

Jeremy Alcorn and Jerian Operana put Huntington on the scoreboard by combining on a defensive safety midway through the first quarter. Tanner Ciok then scored on a 15 yard run and Jackson Walters kicking the two-point conversion. On defense, Riley O'Dell intercepted a Bruins pass and ran in a 20-yard touchdown. Walters again added a two-point kick.

In the second quarter, quarterback Braeden Boyles scored on a 50-yard run and with Walters' two-point kick, the Gold Chargers went into the half leading, 26-0.

Defensively, Dillon Blake had an interception, and PJ Campbell made key tackles and deflected a La Mirada pass attempt near the end of the third quarter. Jackson Schnoor's definitive sack at the end of the fourth quarter ended the game.

The Gold Chargers travel Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against the Brea Green Wildcats.
