Retail Therapy: Tax day is your oyster

Eggcellent event: Westminster Mall will host its annual Kidgits Eggcellent Easter Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in its Target Court. Sweet treat: Casey's Cupcakes has released a new 159-calorie Skinny Cupcake to help sugar addicts prepare for summer beachwear. The art of tech: The Beall Center at UC Irvine, in the campus' Arts Plaza area, will host a family day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event will include demonstrations by local tech companies, hands-on activities and art projects. Information and a campus map: beallcenter.uci.edu.

Ready to sail: A kickoff fiesta for the annual Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Balboa Village, at Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street in Newport Beach. Enjoy family-friendly activities like face-painting, music and science exhibits. The first-ever Taste of Balboa also will be held during the kickoff event. Many local restaurants will offer "tastes" of their best dishes, for $1 to $10 per dish. Participating restaurants include Bella Luna Café, Harborside Restaurant, Ruby's Diner, the Porch and the Sliding Door Café.
