Red, White and Doom of Region 55 captured third place at the AYSO Area 11K All-Star Tournament last weekend. The girls' Under-12 squad completed the tournament at El Dorado Park in Long Beach on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against Region 96. Red, White and Doom jumped out to an early lead, as strikers Grace Khoury and Hannah Higginson set up scoring opportunities for Caroline Fowler. From there, the rest of the match turned into a defensive struggle. Leading the way on defense for Red, White and Doom was sweeper Kayla Winsatt and fullbacks Jessica Johanscik, Cassidy Novkov and Kendyl Nowels.

Angelique Flores HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The city's Community Services Commission has formed an ad hoc committee to settle the ongoing dispute between soccer parents and residents in the Meadow View School neighborhood. The panel, which includes commission members, Ocean View School District officials, AYSO representatives and homeowners, has initially requested additional police patrols of the area to help control traffic and parking violations. In 1998, the American Youth Soccer Organization's Region 143 leased the closed Meadow View School on Clark Drive from the school district for soccer games on Saturdays.

HB Break Away, a girls'  Under-12 AYSO Plus team, captured first place in its division at the McMillan AYSO Plus Tournament in Costa Mesa. The team played four games over the Labor Day weekend, with their three victories coming by shutout. The games were played at Costa Mesa High. HB Break Away outscored their four opponents, 13-1, en route to the title. They shutdown Corona del Mar (4-0), Tustin (5-0) and Mission Viejo (3-0). Their only blemish was a 1-1 tie against Newport Beach.

Angelique Flores HUNTINGTON BEACH -- School, city and soccer officials are wondering who's responsible for the vandalism of a soccer field at the former Meadow View Elementary School -- damage that will cost more than $4,000 to fix. Last week, AYSO coaches found a large patch of dead, yellow grass and soil where there had been more than 1 1/2 acres of a plush, green grassy soccer field. Most of the playing space is now unusable. "There's the work and cost to fix it, and then wondering why someone would do this," said Mike Green, field coordinator for AYSO.

Jared Mossembekker and Eric Bergeron each scored two goals and the No Names found their identity in a 6-1 victory over the HB Surf in AYSO Region 117 boys' Under-14 Division soccer action. The No Names entered the new season without a moniker, known simply as Team 354 when they took on HB Surf. First period goals by Matt McCoy, Bergeron and Mossembekker, set up by assists by Jeffrey Wold and Brandon Messer, propelled the team to a 3-0 lead. Wold later assisted Mossembekker's second goal to make it a 4-1 game, Bergeron scored on a breakaway at the outset of the second half and Justin Rodriguez closed out the scoring with a goal off a deflected shot.

Mutiny of Region 55 posted a goal in each half and scored a 2-0 victory over the Red Riptides of Region 56 in AYSO girls' soccer action last weekend. Mutiny midfielder Katie Gainous scored the only goal of the first half on a short shot setup by teammate Megan Furry. Gainous also accounted for the game's other goal, scoring unassisted in the third quarter. Riptides forwards Jesie Beidleman, Emma Olson and Kelsey Reed helped move the ball up field to pressure Mutiny goalie Ariel Thelander in the first half, but the Red Riptides could not score.

Richie Unfried scored three goals Saturday to lead a potent offensive attack as the Region 5 boys Under-10 spring select soccer team scored an 8-3 victory over Lake Forest. In addition to Unfried's output, Jordan Black, Danny Shoop, Nadeem Abdo, Alvaro Jacobo, and Alex Loeffelman all scored one goal, and Abdo, Jacobo, Loeffelman, and Mason Miller each had an assist. In other AYSO action: Hurricanes 4, Aliso Viejo 1 Borna Khavari, Andrew Davis, Chris Voss, and Ian Gould all scored, both David Johnson and Aashik Chela had assists, and goalie Brett Webber had five saves as the Hurricanes rolled at Peterson Elementary School in Huntington Beach.

Mike Sciacca HB Rage, a girls' Under-14 Division Gold All-Star team out of Region 55, won its opening game of the AYSO Area K tournament Saturday by edging Region 56, 3-2, in Irvine. Down 1-0, Jennifer Pacheco's unassisted goal tied the score early in the second period. Region 56 rallied to grab a 2-1 lead minutes later, only to see HB Rage forge another tie, this time at 2-2, on Pacheco's direct kick from 20 yards out. Late in the match, HB Rage grabbed its first lead when Kay-Dee Lane set up Nicole Montgomery's game-winning goal with a perfectly placed cross pass.

The Huntington Elite (T.H.E.), the 12-and-under Gold All-Star team from Huntington Beach Girls Softball, swept its way to a division title June 14-16 at the Fountain Valley All-Star Summer Classic tournament. In this final tournament leading up to the upcoming Amateur Softball Assn. Central "B" District Championship, T.H.E. powered through a competitive field of opponents. Coach Mark Fullbright's team opened the tournament with a tie game (4-4) against Whittier folowed by a 9-0 shutout of Rancho Peñasquitos in pool play.

HB Crew, an Under-19 boys' soccer team from AYSO Region 143 (Huntington Beach/Westminster), successfully defended its title by winning its division on June 2 at the Mission Viejo Classic Soccer Tournament. The Crew's first match was against a feisty team from La Quinta. Keeper Nico Gambino stopped a penalty kick to keep the game scoreless in the early moments. Forwards Dakoda Muta , Brad Odell and Joseph Ayers all found the net in the first half to give the Crew the lead for good in an eventual, 5-0 victory.

AYSO Region 143 will conduct tryouts for its EXTRA program on Sunday. Tryouts will be held at Meadow View School (5702 Clark Drive, Huntington Beach). Boys' and girls' Under-9-U12 tryouts are from 9 to 11a.m., and U13-U14 divisions are from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Check-in is 30 minutes prior to each tryout. The AYSO Region 143 (Huntington Beach) under-10 division boys' Gold All-Star team won a title and the Silver All-Star team took second place Saturday at the AYSO Region 11-K All-Star Tournament at Dan Young Field in Santa Ana. The Gold All-Star team won its division title by downing Region 177 (Long Beach), 4-2, in the final. Braeden Koch and Jared Rhone led the defense and goalie Cole Kaplan made several stops in the title game. Dane Brenton, Cooper Livingston, Damien Campos, Gavin Langer, Gareth Keeler, Wyatt David and Mason Kelly, made up a powerful offense that scored 16 goals as the team went 4-1 during the tournament.

The Surf City Breakers, an AYSO Region 56 Under-14 girls' Extra team from South Huntington Beach, won the JUSA Signature Friendship Tournament on Sunday in Yorba Linda. The Breakers won two games and tied a third to advanced to the division final. In the title game, the Breakers and host Yorba Linda fought to a scoreless tie through regulation. The Breakers earned the championship when Alexa Tangonan, Bailey Goetz and Gianna DiLiberto converted penalty kicks, and goalie Megan Undlin registered three saves.

The Fountain Valley Under-19 girls' soccer team, Kiss My Grass of AYSO Region 5, took second place during Presidents Day weekend at the Colorado River Invitational Soccer Tournament. The tournament drew more than 110 teams from California, Arizona and Nevada and was held at Bullhead City, Ariz. Fountain Valley reached the U19 title game, where it fell, 2-0, to the host team, Challenge of Bullhead City, on Monday. In a semifinal game played earlier on Monday, Jenny Soliman slipped a shot just inside the left goal post with under a minute to play to give Kiss My Grass a 1-0 win over Moreno Valley Insanity.

HB Gold, a girls' soccer team out of Region 56 (Huntington Beach), won the Under-12 division title Saturday at the AYSO Area K All-Star tournament at Centennial Park in Santa Ana. HB Gold captured the crown by defeating another Huntington Beach program, Region 55, 4-2, in Saturday's final. The teams had played to a 2-2 tie in an early tournament game. The tournament was played during the last three weekends in January and included teams from eight AYSO regions, including three (regions 55, 56, 143)
