The location of the biggest win of Jim Harris? 31-year Ocean View coaching career wasn?t lost on Harris. He won the CIF State Division III Southern California regional title game at UCLA?s Pauley Pavilion on Saturday, on a court called Nell and John Wooden Court. John Wooden has always been someone of whom Harris has spoken highly. Makes sense, considering the Wizard of Westwood won 10 national titles during his time with the Bruins, including seven straight from 1967 through ?

SANTA ANA — The defense took over, which in turn led to the offense taking over. It sounds like a simple formula, but it’s one that’s worked for the Ocean View High boys’ basketball team. The fans saw the consecutive dunks Monday night by seniors Avery Johnson and Anthony Brown, helping the Seahawks pull away in the third quarter against Golden West League foe Segerstrom. But Coach Jim Harris also saw the steals that led to those opportunities as the Seahawks got the key win, 78-62.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Coming off an ugly performance, the Ocean View High basketball team needed a bounce-back. Three nights after what Coach Jim Harris called his team’s worst showing in two years, they got some of that mojo back. Behind 30 points from senior Avery Johnson, Ocean View defeated La Jolla, 62-47, in the first round of the CIF Southern California Division III regional. That came after a painful 64-58 loss to Foothill on Saturday night at the Honda Center in the CIF Southern Section Division III-AA championship game.

SANTA ANA — Anthony Brown said the Ocean View High boys’ basketball team wanted to set the tone early in Friday night’s CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA semifinal game. The No. 3-seeded Seahawks, as it turned out, wanted to play smash-mouth basketball against No. 2 Serra. “We wanted to attack them right from the beginning and not them let them have a chance to get in the game, or think they could play with us,” junior guard Anthony Brown said.

SACRAMENTO — Kevin Greene said he’s watched a lot of Boston Celtics games, paying the closest attention to the lanky star with the same initials. Greene is a lot beefier than Kevin Garnett; he’s going to USC to play football as a defensive end. But he might as well have been the “Big Ticket” Saturday in the CIF State Division III championship game at Arco Arena. The Ocean View High boys’ basketball team won’t want to see him any time soon, not after Greene set a Division III title game record with 20 rebounds in Sacred Heart Cathedral’s 62-55 victory that denied the Seahawks their first state title.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — When the week began, the Ocean View High boys' basketball team needed a couple of things to happen if another Golden West League championship was to come its way. The first thing was out of the Seahawks' hands and strictly based on hope. The second was within their control but hinged on the first thing happening. Early Friday night, Ocean View had it both ways. The Seahawks earned a share of the Golden West title by knocking off Loara, quite easily, too, 81-57, at the Ocean View gym. The outcome left Ocean View, Loara and Segerstrom in a three-way tie for the championship.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — It's been an interesting three-day work week for the Ocean View boys' basketball team, one that took the Seahawks from one end of the playing spectrum, to the other. It all began Monday with a home nonleague game against cross-town rival Huntington Beach, continued Wednesday with a key Golden West League game at Segerstrom and concluded Friday with another league contest against visiting Santa Ana. Ocean View gave up a season-high in points Monday against Huntington in an 81-72 loss.
