It’s now a two-game season for the Huntington Beach High football team. By overcoming a sloppy start to post a 44-17 victory Oct. 30 over Northwood, the Oilers picked up a crucial Sea View League victory — their first in three starts — to set themselves up for a possible CIF playoff berth. But before Huntington can look at the big picture, it will have to focus first on the game at hand this week. Huntington can square its Sea View League record at 2-2 and improve to 4-5 overall Friday by beating El Toro on the road.

The fourth week of the prep football season has some intriguing matchups for the locals. Marina gets a jump on the other three local teams by hosting Colton tonight. On Friday, Ocean View hosts Bolsa Grande, Huntington Beach is at Westminster and in one of the county’s top nonleague match-ups, Edison plays Mater Dei at Santa Ana Bowl. Tonight’s game: Colton (1-2) vs. Marina (2-1) (at Westminster High, 7 p.m.) There were plenty of positives to come out of Marina’s 37-19 nonleague victory last Friday over host Orange.

The prep football teams at Marina and Ocean View take center stage this week, as the 2006 season reaches its halfway point. Two other locals, Edison and Huntington Beach, both have a bye and return to action Oct. 13. Friday's games Paramount (1-3) vs. Marina (0-4) (at Westminster High, 7 p.m.) This could be the week that Marina ends its 15-game losing streak, as the Vikings finish their nonleague portion of the season by hosting Paramount. The injury-riddled Vikings played host Colton tough last week, but the Yellowjackets, behind a potent rushing game, pulled away late and turned a 26-21 lead into a 39-21 victory.
