Good eating to you this holiday What better time to talk about food than this national day of thanksgiving? Today is the day that people all over America feast on turkey, dressing, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Vegetables like yams, green beans and corn often accompany the feast. If the veggies are organic and locally grown, all the better. And that leads us into our topic of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Basically, CSAs are programs of subscription farming. Customers sign up and pay in advance for a share of the produce.

Director Grant Heslov has a screenwriting credit on the outstanding Oscar-nominated film “Good Night, and Good Luck.” Unfortunately, the quality of his writing talent did not transfer well to his role as the director of the strange and disjointed farce that is “The Men Who Stare at Goats.” It’s based loosely on journalist Jon Ronson’s book about the U.S. Army’s real efforts to develop a psychic brigade of soldiers with paranormal powers.

Nearly nine months after the bodies of a Costa Mesa man and Fountain Valley woman were discovered in a mobile home park in Stanton, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that it has made a breakthrough in the double homicide: the woman’s white Lexus has been found at a motel in Anaheim. “I believe it’s a major break in the investigation,” Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, said late Wednesday afternoon. “Hopefully, someone will recognize who was driving that car and come forward.

In a clever plan hatched by Costa Mesa police, a detective disguised himself as a UPS delivery man dropping off a package in hopes it would lure in the buyer, a pizza delivery man who allegedly used a stolen credit card for the purchase. “We wanted to make it look as realistic as possible,” said Costa Mesa Lt. Paul Dondero. On the afternoon of Oct. 15, detectives watched as Jason Le Tran, 23, of Fountain Valley, collected the UPS box from the doorstep of a vacant apartment in the 1000 block of South Coast Drive in Costa Mesa, police said.
