Five Huntington Beach teams got their respective 2012 Pop Warner Football seasons off to a successful start by picking up victories Saturday. . Huntington Beach teams enter the second week of the regular season Saturday. Mighty Mite Division Green Chargers 13, Tustin 6: Huntington spotted Tustin a 6-0 lead but shut down the Black Cobras the rest of the way at Marina High. Tustin took the opening kickoff and marched down for the game's first score, but Huntington came right back when quarterback Ryan Easterday and Carson Chalabian combined on a scoring pass play.

The Huntington Beach Water Polo 16-Under girls' team placed fifth in its division at the USA Water Polo S&R Sport 2010 Junior Olympics, held Aug. 5 through 8 at various sites in the Los Angeles area. The event was held in the Los Angeles area for the first time in the 41-year history of the national tournament. Anchored by Alys Williams (Edison High), Yoshi Andersen (Laguna Beach High) and goalie Savanna Smith (Los Alamitos High), the team went 5-1 in the tournament. Huntington won its first four games against Clovis, Los Angeles Water Polo, Santa Barbara B, and Trojan (Los Angeles)

The former Edison High football star and state beach lifeguard is killed in forklift accident.The south side had lost one of its guardians. Former state lifeguard Ronald Allen Tassin died last week in a forklift accident at his Stonecenter business in Santa Ana. He was 43 years old. Born in Inglewood, Tassin grew up in Huntington Beach and was a well-known high school athlete. He was a starting wide receiver for the 1979 CIF Champion Edison Chargers and a member of the USA Lifeguard National Team.

The Huntington Beach Jr. Midget Division Green Chargers picked up their fourth victory of the season Saturday by blanking the Tustin Cobras, 28-0, at Tustin. Chase Ault and Daniel Serrano did the scoring for Huntington, which ran its record to 4-0. The Green Chargers offensive line blew open big holes for the run game, with Cole Pelkoffer, Jon Moreida, Paul Rogers, Zane Webster and Derrick Weinheimer delivering key blocks. The Green Chargers are home Saturday to the South Coast Tritons (3-1)

The following is a recap of the past weekend?s action by the area?s youth football teams. ? The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Oilers got their season off to a rollicking start Saturday by defeating the Roland Heights Raiders, 33-6. Steve Hernandez accounted for four touchdowns for Huntington, which took command of the game in the second quarter. His scoring came after Dylan Harmeyer scored the first touchdown of the season for the Oilers and Daniel Shulze added the extra point.

Football registration is Saturday Huntington Beach Pop Warner Football will stage its next sign-up session for its 2008 fall season Saturday. Registration for both players and cheerleaders will be taken between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Edison High. League divisions are as follows (age as of July 31, 2008): Cub (flag football), ages 5-6; Jr. Mighty Mite (ages 7-8); Mighty Mite (ages 8-9); Jr. Pee Wee (ages 8-11); Pee Wee (ages 9-12); Jr. Midget (ages 10-13); Midget (ages 11-15)
