Michael Matter A sewage leak originating in Garden Grove closed two marinas in Huntington Harbour last week and over the holiday weekend. Both the Sunset Aquatic and Portofino Cove marinas in the Huntington Harbour water area were closed to swimmers last Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The spill was caused by a line puncture in Garden Grove's sewage collection system, said Monica Mazur spokeswoman for the County of Orange Health Care Agency, Environmental Health.

A police investigation uncovered the identity and led to the arrest of a Garden Grove man suspected of attempted murder. Shawn Michael Espinoza, 39, was arrested Dec. 10 in connection with a Dec. 2 attempted murder and robbery incident, officials said. He is charged with one felony count each of attempted murder, use of a firearm, second-degree attempted murder and street terrorism, according to court documents. He is expected to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Friday in courtroom W-15 at the West Justice Center.

A Garden Grove man suspected in an attempted murder case was supposed to be arraigned today, but the arraignment was put off until January. A police investigation uncovered the identity of Shawn Michael Espinoza, 39, who is suspected of being the shooter in a attempted murder and robbery incident Dec. 2, officials said. He will be charged with one felony count each of attempted murder, use of a firearm, second-degree attempted murder and street terrorism, according to court documents.

An 18-year-old Fountain Valley man, believed to part of an Asian street gang, and an accomplice were arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly dragging a women behind their car Saturday. Christopher Dai-Ichi Yu, 18, along with 19-year-old Lynn Ai Quach, of Garden Grove, were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder Saturday. The two are also expected to be charged with enhancements for being in a criminal street gang, robbery and discharging a firearm. Both face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A woman struck by two vehicles in Huntington Beach on Tuesday morning is in critical condition, according to police. The 34-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was found unconscious on Beach Boulevard, north of Edinger Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Authorities said she was walking east across Beach underneath the 405 Freeway overpass when she was hit by a 36-year-old man from Garden Grove in a white 2013 Honda Accord traveling north....

Garden Grove marketing specialists, Dale and Sharon Pedersen of Star Real Estate and area youths expressed their patriotism by distributing some 3,500 flags to Garden Grove residents on July 4th. This tradition of flag planting has been taking place yearly for more than a decade. The Pedersens are residents of Garden Grove and take great pride in their community and its people. Each year, the Pedersens recruit help from the community's you, many who have helped distribute flags in past years.

A woman in her 20s was killed Sunday in Garden Grove when the vehicle she was in hit a telephone pole and then a building, authorities said. Ariel Johnson, 21, of Lake Forest, was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning, after driver Shauna Ahyen, 21, of Fountain Valley, veered off the road, Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale said. Johnson was one of three occupants of a vehicle driven by Ahyen, who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI, Garden Grove police said in a statement.

A former Huntington Beach police officer was sentenced Friday for conspiring in text messages and phone calls to illegally dismiss a legitimate traffic citation. Erik Michael Krause, 44, was sentenced to one year of probation and 30 days in jail or completion of 100 hours of community service. A Garden Grove officer involved in the case, Michael John Zannitto, 47, received the same sentence Jan. 25. The defendants did not know each other prior to the crime. Krause was a 22-year department veteran when he issued a traffic citation to a 32-year-old unnamed woman who was allegedly speeding near a stopped school bus. He wrote detailed notes on the ticket on Nov. 9, 2011.

A Fountain Valley man who was a former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was convicted Tuesday and sentenced to six years in state prison for raping two women, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office. Miguel Lerma Jr., 33 pleaded guilty to a felony charge of forcible rape and rape of an intoxicated person. The defendant was also sentenced to lifetime registration as a sex offender, barring him from entering county recreational areas and city parks. At the time of the attacks, Lerma worked as an officer for U.S. Customs and Border Protection with the Department of Homeland Security.

Ocean View High's Michael Congelliere stepped into some rare company by being named to the 2010 All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division team. Congelliere, a senior listed at 6 feet 1, 240 pounds, was one of five linebackers named to the division's defensive team. Quarterback Josh Webb and Coach Willy Puga of division champion Garden Grove were named Offensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. The Defensive Player of the Year honor went to linebacker Preston Risser of Corona del Mar. He was one of eight players from the Golden West League to be named to the Southern Division team.

Coastline Community College is hosting a free business forum and expo Friday in Garden Grove. Coastline's business development program Project Success will bring together the green and information technology industries for the free event. The Coastline Community College is based in Fountain Valley with facilities in Costa Mesa and Westminster. Speakers from the Governor's Office of Economic Development, State Board of Equalization and others will discuss trends in the industries.
