A man who has been wanted since 2000 for allegedly being involved in the shooting of a Huntington Beach resident has been apprehended in Santa Cruz, according to authorities. Daran Matthew Gudehus, 34, was arrested on Highway 1 March 5 without bail in relation to a November 2000 case in which a Huntington Beach man, Michael Steven Olvera, 19, was shot during a gang-related fight at a Garden Grove party. Olvera died later of his wounds. It is not clear whether Gudehus was the shooter or an accomplice.

The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Division Oilers closed out their regular season Saturday by posting their third straight victory, this one a 24-18 come-from-behind win at Garden Grove in Jr. All-American Football action. The Oilers opened up the scoring with an 80-yard touchdown run by Mo Barber in the first quarter but later found themselves trailing, 18-8, heading into the fourth quarter. Huntington began its rally when quarterback Nolan Winks connected with receiver Trevor Diehl for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
