The Bulldogs led from start to finish in their Howe Division meeting with the Hornets Tuesday and took the high-scoring affair, 9-6, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Chris Theriault netted a match-high four goals for the Bulldogs. Kyle Christi had a goal and three assists, Ethan Higbee and Chris Martinez each had a goal and two assists, Max McDaniel had a goal and assist, Shane Williams scored once and Zack McDaniel had an assist. Emmett Jaeger had 24 saves.

Luke Barrett and Dylan McCarthy each scored two goals and the Hornets defense posted a shutout in a 6-0 Norris Division victory over the Blue Diamonds at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Barrett and McCarthy scored their goals over the first two periods, which helped the Hornets bolt to a 5-0 lead. Wyatt Colvard opened up and closed the scoring for the Hornets. Connor Hisgen had two assists and McCarthy picked up one. The shutout went to Tori Gianformaggio, who recorded 17 saves.

Kang nets three goals in a 4-2 Adams Division victory.Grayson Kang scored three goals, and the Hornets scored a victory in Adams Division play by defeating the Eagles, 4-2, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Kang scored the first and last two goals for the Hornets, who got a single goal from Ashton McKeown, assists from Grant Kang and Brent Lindstrom and 17 saves from Nick Hoskins. Blake Walker scored both goals for the Eagles, the first off an assist from Brianna Case.

Derick Rosas scored an unassisted goal in the final period Tuesday to lift the Hornets to a 5-4 victory over the Dragons. It was the first goal of the contest for Rosas, who also picked up a second quarter assist, which led to a Robert Sanchez goal. Jeff Fuzzard, Drew Richardson and Bryce Keizer also got into the scoring act for the Hornets, while Jeremy Jennings led the team in with two assists. Hornets goalie Jaryd Mason had 27 saves. Chas Plimpton scored twice to pace the Dragons, who also received goals from Joshua Austin and Ali Plummer, an assist by Stephanie McKnight and 27 saves by goalie Garrett Ono. In other games: Saints 2, Thunderblades 1 This defensive struggle featured two goals by the Saints' Aaron Fulmer, one goal by the Thunderblades' Luke Gane, 24 saves by Saints goalie Kyle Bezayiff and 25 saves by Thunderblades goalie Mike Burkhardt.

Cole Redl scored the first and last goals for the Bruins and finished with a match-best four goals in a 7-1 victory over the Hornets in Norris Division play at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Redl also had an assist. Rob Rosenast scored twice, Paul MacCabe scored once and Cameron Platzman and Mike Walters each had an assist for the Bruins. Jeffrey Ivora recorded 17 saves for the win. Trevor Scott scored unassisted for the Hornets and Chas Scott had 23 saves.

Gregory Williams scored a division-best five goals Monday to lead the Roller Dogs to a 7-5 victory over the Hornets in Smythe Division action at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Brock Bowden completed the Roller Dogs scoring by netting his team's two other goals. Robert Vierregger scored twice to lead the Hornets, who also received single goals from Brittany Downer, Ian Jahns, and Andrew Kee. In other games: Avalanche 3, Bombers 2 Jacob Hill scored off a Cody Bertrand feed in the third period to give the Avalanche the victory.

The Panthers bolted to a quick lead Monday in their Smythe Division match against the Hornets to post an 8-2 victory at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. The Panthers led, 3-0, after one period and built a 5-0 lead before the Hornets cracked the scoreboard. Garrett Zolg scored three times and Jake Shaylor twice to lead the Panthers in scoring. Single goals went to Jordan Reichenbach, Ryan Beardshear and Tyler Beardshear. Zolg and Shaylor each added a pair of assists and Ryan Beardshear had one assist.

The Heat opened their 1999-2000 season on a successful note Sunday, defeating Fountain Valley No. 6, 40-33, in the opening weekend of Fountain Valley National Junior Basketball (NJB) boys Division I play. Forward Matthew Derocili scored a game-high 10 points and also collected eight rebounds and a pair of assists to lead a Heat attack that also featured 10 rebounds, five points, and two assists from Robert Macksoud. The Heat also received strong outside shooting from guards Richard Martinez and Viet Nguyen, who finished with seven and six points, respectively.

The Hornets, a boys Under-10 AYSO Region 56 soccer team, collected three recent shutout victories, two of which came by shutout. Riley Hansler opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Tsunami by sending a penalty kick into the corner of the net, and Nick Stephens secured the win with a shot off a well-placed corner kick by Hansler. The Hornets' defensive line of Aashik Chela, Matt Abad-Santos, and Tanner Stansbury held off a strong Tsunami offensive attack to preserve the win. On Saturday, Bradley Hansen, assisted by Jordan Luevano, scored off another precise corner kick by Hansler to lift the Hornets past the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, 1-0. Big Blue goalie Chris Voss actually made a nice stop on the ball, but it rolled into the corner of the net. It was the first goal of the season for Hansen.

After having fought to a 2-2 tie through regulation play Wednesday, the Hornets and Sharks still couldn't determine a winner in overtime as the two teams ended up in a 4-4 deadlock in Norris Division action at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. In regulation, both Douglas Wedel and Andrew Richardson scored for the Hornets (5-3-2), and Jamie Schlegel scored both goals for the Sharks (1-8-1). The overtime session saw Richardson score again, and Michael Kelley both score for the Hornets, while both Shea Doyle and Keith Dickson scored goals for the Sharks.

Huntington Beach High played host Sunday to the National Junior Basketball Division 2 game between the Huntington Beach Hornets and the Huntington Beach Cougars. The Cougars ended up coming out on top, 37-34. The Cougars led early and were up, 12-8, after a quarter and 17-12 at halftime. The Hornets pulled within a basket in the fourth quarter, and one point in the fifth quarter. But Kyle Privia made two clutch free-throws to hold on. Justin Brodt added 14 points for the Cougars and Mark Schenkelvery scored 13. “We played hard today,” Cougars Coach Mike Privia said.

The Huntington Beach Hornets and Surf City Waves generated plenty of buzz at the National Junior Basketball National Tournament. The two 12-and-under teams nearly won the tournament, played at Whittier High on March 28-29. The Hornets placed second, while the Waves were third. ?It was really a lot of fun watching those kids perform,? Waves Coach Keith McCord said. ?They played out of their minds, both teams.? Both teams lost to the eventual champion from Redwood, although the Waves rebounded to beat a team from Los Gatos in the third-place game.

Garrett Felix scored four goals and Preston Yamasaki netted three others to lead the Revolution past the Rink Rats, 10-5, in a Norris Division match at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Felix did all of his scoring in the first two periods, getting two goals in each period. Yamasaki opened the scoring in the match and also had a goal in the final two periods. Jordan Reichenbach scored twice and Katrina Manalac once to close out the scoring for the Revolution.

Drew Truxaw and the Conspiracy defense played shutout hockey while the offense scored in each period in a 3-0 Campbell Division victory over the Rangers at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. In other Campbell Division action Lightning 3, Mad Dogs 1 The Lightning put the game away against the Mad Dogs when Joel Steele scored an unassisted goal with 1:15 to play. Lightning Blades 3, Jaguars 1 A 2-0 start to the match proved to be the difference for the Lightning Blades in their win over the Jaguars.

The Flames jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead on the Revolution and turned that quick start into a 5-3 Norris Division victory at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Scott Jervik scored twice and had an assist, and Peter Skowron also had two goals to pace the Flames. Matthew Bird also scored, and Dane Peterson had an assist. Matthew Manning registered 16 saves. Garrett Felix, Riley Dix and Katrina Manalac scored for the Revolution. Joey Lambur and Stephen Kim each had an assist, and Ricky Meyer had 21 saves.

The Strom closed strong in their showdown against Philadelphia in the championship match of the Patrick Division postseason playoffs, and used that finish to post a 6-2 title-clinching victory at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. The Storm led, 2-1, after the first period but pulled away from there and sealed the win by outscoring Philadelphia, 2-0, in the final period. Dylan Miller led the Storm offense with three goals and two assists. Aaron Baca-Chavez and Eric Schilb each had a goal and assist and Tov Johnson scored once.

The Mighty Pucks scored six goals over the first two periods and went on to polish off the Sharks, 7-0, in Adams Division play Friday at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Leon Sandeberg and Nicholas Upstill each scored two goals to pace the Mighty Pucks on offense. Single goals went to AJ Gatto, Jeremy Lee and Christina Kao while Jenna Gatto had an assist. Dillon Makoff had eight saves as the Mighty Pucks defense recorded the shutout. Adam Lang had 18 saves for the Sharks.
