The Huntington Beach High lacrosse team bounced back from its first loss of the season to score a 14-2 victory over visiting Marina on Friday at Cap Sheue Field. Sophomore attackman Taylor Refice of the Oilers led all scorers with five goals. Senior attackmen Jace Gan and AJ Schaffner each had two goals and senior midfielder Steven Koressel had a goal and three assists. Sophomore defenseman Anders Davis and midfielders Carsten Beith, Jarrett Rodenas and Geoffrey Lunsk all scored once.

Oilers split first two lacrosse matches The Huntington Beach High lacrosse team split its first two matches of the 2008 prep lacrosse season in recent road action in south Orange County. Last Friday, the Oilers fell to host Mission Viejo, 15-8. Nick Refice scored four goals to lead the Huntington offense. Kyle Peterson added three goals and had two assists and Liam Powers scored once. Oilers freshman goalie Kevin Shepley registered 12 saves. Huntington began the season on Feb. 26 with an 8-4 victory over host Capistrano Valley in the first game for Dave Harvericak as the Oilers’ head coach.

Huntington Beach opened the CIF boys' lacrosse postseason Tuesday with a sound victory. The Oilers grabbed the early lead on visiting JSerra at Cap Sheue Field, fell behind by two goals but rallied with a strong defensive stance in the second half to claim a 10-6 win. It was the first home playoff game for Huntington. The Oilers stunned JSerra by scoring two goals in the opening three minutes of the match. They increased the lead to 3-0, but then the Lions put up a big-time rally by scoring five straight goals to take a 5-3 lead.
