When Ocean View High takes on Kennedy of La Palma Friday, the game will mark the school's first postseason apperance since the 1990 season. "Things are hopping around here on campus...everybody is excited," said Ocean View Coach Harold Eggers... When Marina travels to Rialto to battle 9-1 Eisenhower, the Vikings will be playing their first playoff game since 1992... If Marina is to defeat Eisenhower, the Vikings will need to hang on to the ball. In their last two games - both losses, Marina fumbled the ball a total of 11 times.

Club baseball team has spots available The Vikings Baseball Club of Huntington Beach is looking for four enthusiastic players to complete its 2007-2008 roster. The club team seeks a catcher and pitcher as well as two versatile players. To be eligible for the team, a player’s 13th birthday must fall between May 1, 2007, and April 30, 2008. For a photo gallery, click here. COSTA MESA — What a difference a week makes for the Edison High football team. The Chargers showed they can finish off a highly ranked team this week. Last week, they couldn’t against Servite, which left Coach Dave White saying he wanted his Chargers to improve and be more physical against Mater Dei in a key nonleague battle between a pair of highly-ranked CIF Pac-5 Division teams. White got more than that Friday night at Orange Coast College.

The Huntington Beach High baseball team is off and running in the Newport Elks Tournament. The Oilers opened up their 2008 campaign this past week with three impressive victories, the most recent being a 9-0 shutout of host Ocean View Monday. Huntington blew open a tight game by posting a four-run third-inning, then tacked on two runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings to put the game away. The Oilers outhit the Seahawks, 9-3. Senior MJ Forsberg notched his second win of the young season in a complete-game performance.

Mike Sciacca The 18th meeting between two of Orange County's storied prep football programs figures to add luster to a well-played series. Friday at 7 p.m. at Orange Coast College, Edison will play host to Mater Dei in the county's top matchup of the weekend. Edison comes into the game 4-0 while Mater Dei is 3-1. The Chargers are ranked third and the Monarchs are fourth, in the latest Division I poll. Mater Dei's only loss was a tough, 14-7 setback to Mission Viejo, the No. 1 team in Division II, on Sept.

Entering the fifth week of the prep football season, Marina High has emerged as the surprise team... The Vikings are making Mike Dodd's coaching debut at the school a memorable one. They're 4-0, have beaten three playoff teams, two ranked teams, and with a win Friday over El Toro, can move to 5-0 for the first time since 1994... In fact, Marina's impressive start has vaulted the Vikings to the No. 10 spot in this week's CIF Southern Section Division I rankings.
