His nickname could be "Aqua Lung." His slogan could be: Banker by day, world-class swimmer by night. He is Richard Saeger, a 1984 Olympic gold medalist who has recently delved, or dived, back into the pool, breaking records all over again. Saeger, 41, who regularly trains at Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar High school pools, is fresh off a world-record performance in the 100-meter freestyle in the 40-44 age division at the Mission Viejo Masters Meet July 3. An Irvine resident since 1999, Saeger got back into competitive swimming in 2000 after taking a 14-year hiatus to focus on his career -- banking, basically.

Claire Massey ignited a second half 8-0 run, and the East Huntington Beach Silver Surfer Girls used that spurt to pull away to a 33-21 victory over Mission Viejo in a National Junior Basketball 7th-Grade All-Net girls basketball game played Thursday at Ocean View High. Massey scored six of her game-high 12 points during the decisive run as the Silver Surfer Girls expanded a 13-11 lead into a 25-13 advantage through three quarters. Massey also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and also came up with four steals.

In a game that saw three lead changes and six tie scores, fittingly, the AYSO Area K girls' Under-12 Division playoff game between the HB Crush and Mission Viejo ended in a 5-5 tie. Mission Viejo entered the match unbeaten while the Crush came in with a 4-0-1 record. Kirsten Marony netted four of HB Crush's five goals, one coming on a solo breakaway from midfield. Assists went to George Demes, Alison Hensley and Erika Longoria, who scored in the third period.

A fourth man was arrested in a Craigslist sting on suspicion of attempting to a pay a 13-year-old girl for sex Tuesday. Mission Viejo resident Howard Houchen Wang, 38, was arrested and booked into the Huntington Beach Jail. He is expected to be charged today with four felony counts for attempting lewd acts on a child, luring a child with intent to commit a crime, meeting a minor to commit lewd conduct and showing lewd material to a minor. Wang began talking to Huntington Beach detectives posing as a 13-year-old girl on Craigslist, sending her e-mails and pictures of himself, police said.

Huntington Beach and Ocean View had their postseason runs come to an end Friday in the quarterfinal round of the CIF Southern Section football playoffs. The best season turned in by a Huntington Beach team in nearly two decades came to a close before at full house at Cap Sheue Field. The Oilers traded punches with second-ranked Mission Viejo in their Pac-5 Division game, but it was the visiting Diablos who were left standing after scoring a wild 41-31 victory. Huntington trailed, 31-10, after three quarters but scored 14 straight points early in the fourth quarter to pull within 34-24 with 8:11 left to play.

The Firecrackers out of AYSO Region 143 (Huntington Beach/Westminster) came up big on defense last weekend and won the B bracket title at the Area K Tournament. The team posted shutout victories in its three tournament games, and went 3-1 overall. They beat San Clemente (3-0), Lake Forest (2-0) and Mission Viejo (2-0), but lost, 2-1, to Rancho Santa Margarita. Giuliana Cefalu scored two goals and Kaylee Evans netted one against San Clemente. Cefalu also scored in the Lake Forest win, as did Andrea Stange.

In a battle between the top two teams in the league, Orange Coast United Rush girls' Under-12 soccer club maintained its grip on first place by blanking the West Coast Impact, 2-0, Saturday in Mission Viejo. Cindy Mendoza scored a header early in the first half, and Brittany Koster later put the ball in the net off an outstanding assist by Robin Ibbetson. The battle for first place turned into a defensive battle, in which Rush was led by Amanda Shaw, Courtney Anderson, Tori Rocke, Elyse VanLeer, Jennifer Powell, Amy Staudinger, Samantha Castillo, Jaque Anderson, Sasha Key, Chelsea Wisdom and Brianna Baker.
