Cara Hulett's phone rang a little after 10 p.m. on Sept. 25. On the other end, her 27-year-old brother Chris Hulett told her that he had just been in a bad accident. Less than two hours earlier, Hulett told his sister, on his way through the intersection at 6th Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, he struck 16-year-old Heather Stamm and her boyfriend, 19-year-old Nathan Koontz. Hulett told his sister that he called 911 and then stayed with Heather, talking to her and reminding her not to move so she wouldn't further her injuries.

The Huntington Beach Council on Aging will present its free 21st annual Senior Saturday Community Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Pier Plaza. About 75 sponsor booths will be at the event, offering information, products and services geared toward seniors. In addition to the sponsor booths, there will be $2 breakfast, $2 lunch and free entertainment throughout the day. Pier Plaza is adjacent to the Huntington Beach Pier at the intersection of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

The Orange County Sanitation District has begun rehabilitating a 54-inch-wide sewer line below the beach parking lot between First Street and Beach Boulevard, the state beach parking lot south of Beach Boulevard and on First Street between Pacific Coast Highway and Walnut Avenue. The pipe will be lined and three manholes will be added. Construction work on Saturdays will be discontinued on or after the Memorial Day holiday weekend; the project?s estimated completion is in July.

State Sen. Tom Harman will lead a public meeting on the Huntington Beach Wetlands Restoration Project next week. The meeting covers the area of wetlands stretching from the Santa Ana River to Newland Street along Pacific Coast Highway, and will inform the public of its current status. As well as Harman, officials from the Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy and consultants for the project will be present. The meeting is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 27, at the Edison High School cafeteria, 21400 Magnolia Ave.
