The sergeant was on patrol at about 3 a.m. near West Ocean Front and Summit Street when he saw a light that appeared to be emanating from a tent on a West Newport beach, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Reilly Reilly is a 1-year-old pit bull. She is fawn and white in color and has already been spayed. Reilly is very affectionate and loves to cuddle -- she does not have a typical pit bull personality. She loves to ride in the car and play ball. Reilly has been staying with a foster family, and they said she is perfect. She is housebroken, hardly ever barks and enjoys lying on the couch and watching TV. Reilly would be best in a home where she is the only pet. Please come meet our Reilly at the Orange County Humane Society, 21632 Newland St., Huntington Beach.

Sherbert is a 2½-year-old American pit bull terrier mix, who likes to show that she is as sweet as her name. Found in June as a stray, Sherbert has been cooped up in a kennel far too long. She enjoys playing with toys and, understandably, is very happy to get outside for walks with volunteers. Although selective about canine friends, she is friendly with many of the other shelter dogs. It appears she has had some training, as she is clearly housebroken and knows the sit command.

Cody is a two year old Labrador/pit bull mix. He has the coloring of a pit bull but the personality and body of a lab. He is brown, black and white. Poor Cody has been at the shelter since July. He is a little silly when you meet him because he has been penned up for so long and he is so young he just wants to run. He does settle down when he has been walking for a while and would be a wonderful pet for a family with older children who would have the patience to train him. He is so eager to please you he acts very silly.

While a lifeguard managed to leash one dog, a police officer had used a Taser on the other, he added.
