Marina, Edison, Huntington Beach and Ocean View softball teams learned of their respective opponents in the CIF Southern Section playoffs, as pairings were released Monday. In Division 1, Marina (24-3), the Sunset League champion, plays host to Tuesday's wild-card winner in Thursday's first round. The Vikings await the winner between Corona (17-14, Big VIII League at-large) at Moreno Valley Rancho Verde (14-9, Inland Valley League No. 3) Edison (20-10), the Sunset League second-place team, plays at Moreno Valley Valley View (13-14, Inland Valley League No. 2)

Daric Barton ripped three home runs and Justin Sellers added one of his own as Marina High split a home nonleague baseball doubleheader with Moorpark this weekend. The Vikings downed the Musketeers, 9-5, in the first game, then dropped a 4-2 decision in the second. In the 9-5 triumph, Barton, an all-CIF player last year, delivered solo shots in the third and fifth innings, then capped his amazing hitting performance and the game's scoring with a three-run homer in the sixth.

FRIDAY'S GAMES Rancho Alamitos (3-5) vs. Ocean View (2-6) (at Ocean View High, 7 p.m.) Ocean View takes a timeout from Golden West League action to host Rancho Alamitos. The Seahawks, playing their final home game in their first season in their new stadium, will attempt to build on last week's 34-33 league win over Santa Ana. Ocean View's defense blocked the extra point after a late Santa Ana touchdown to preserve the victory. Offensively, Aaron Gonya rushed for two touchdowns and an even 100 yards and Anthony Love and Brett Burda caught touchdown passes from Alex Hickerson, who returned to start at quarterback for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in the second week of the season.

Mike Sciacca, Independent Sunset League boys basketball co-champion Marina High, and Edison, which won the girls' Sunset race, both were awarded first round byes Sunday when the CIF Southern Section basketball division playoffs were announced. The Vikings, who rode a 16-game win streak during the course of the regular season en route to a 23-3 finish, will play at home Friday in its Division I-A opener. Marina will take on the winner of Wednesday's first round game between Buena and Saugus.

For the second-straight week, Edison and Huntington Beach posted impressive prep football victories. As openers go, Marina was ohsoclose to ending a streak, and Ocean View found the going tough. All four local schools continue their 2006 journeys Friday, with Edison playing its first home game of the season. FRIDAY L.A. Jordan (0-2) vs. Edison (2-0) (at Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.) Edison worked a few new wrinkles into its offense last week in beating highly-regarded San Clemente on the road, 27-14.
