The Reds withstood a late charge by the Rockies Sunday and held on for a 5-4 victory in a Majors Division game at Ocean View Little League. Justin Robinson had a run-scoring double in the sixth innings for the Rockies whose rally fell short. The Rockies had scored their previous run on an error in the fifth. For the Reds, Ben Davis' double drove in two runs and Dominic Ventimiglia's single brought in a run. Solid pitching by Reds' Daniel Williams and Gavin Kennedy , and Rockies' Cobie Donovan kept the score tight.

The Reds finished up an exciting season Monday by defeating the Astros, 1-0, to win the Bronco Division (ages 11-12) championship. The double-elimination championship series came to an end when Jeff Roth produced a solo home run in the first inning and the Reds' pitching and defense did the rest. The pitching combination of Ryan Stehle, Roth and Jeff Hann earned the shutout, while the defense of Stehle, Justin De Marco and Joel Bagby, denied the Astros any scoring opportunities.

The Angels won a pair of games in Seaview Little League Majors Division action last week, beating both the Reds and Yankees in a four-day swing. In edging the Reds, 2-1, the Angels rallied with a two-run fourth inning to pull out the win. A Michael Sheedy home run had given the Reds a 1-0 lead, but Matt Schoenberger's RBI double scored brother, John, to tie the score, and Nick Leone, who had reached base on a walk, scored what turned out to be the winning run on a Reds error.

The Reds maintained sole possession of the Majors Division first half race by winning two games during recent play at Ocean View Little League. In a 3-1 decision over the Cardinals, Dylan Nicholson pitched four shutout innings and also had two hits, and Hank Conger broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the third inning. Jeff Molica had two hits for the Cardinals. The Reds staged a huge comeback Saturday to overtake the Dodgers, 13-10. Conger finished with two home runs and six RBI, including a three-run home run which gave the Reds the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, and also hit a three-run shot in the second inning.

The Reds won titles in both Majors and Minor A Division play, and the Brewers topped the standings in the Minor B Division as Ocean View Little League concluded its 2000 regular season last weekend. MAJORS DIVISION The Reds finished the regular season with an 18-2 record, having defeated the Astros, 14-4, before losing to the Mariners, 15-5, in the final week of league play. In beating the Astros, Jeff Van Doornum, who finished with four hits, smashed a grand slam in the third inning to break open the game.

The Reds, a local baseball team comprised of players from Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach, won two games this week in the double elimination Bronco Division playoffs hosted by Fountain Valley Youth Baseball at Mile Square Park. The Reds defeated the Cardinals, 9-4, on Tuesday, then came back on Wednesday to handle the Astros, 4-1. The two victories left the Reds as the only unbeaten team in the winner's bracket. In beating the Cardinals, Justin DeMarco and Jeff Roth both doubled, and Jeff Hann hit a home run to pace the Reds on offense, while pitchers Roth, Hann, and Brandon Lawson combined to strike out 12 Cardinals.

Anthony Peralta, Matt Ayster, Andy Pierce, and MJ Forsberg each had three hits Saturday and the Reds claimed the first half championship in Ocean View Little League Minor A Division race by beating the Tigers, 15-2. Peralta finished with three RBI and Billy Allen and Travis Sutton also had key hits as the Reds ended the first half of play with a 9-1 mark. Garrett Shin pitched two innings and also had a hit to lead the Tigers. Prior to beating the Tigers, the Reds edged the Rangers, 10-8.

The Reds and the Astros, the top two seeds in the Fountain Valley Youth Baseball Bronco Major Division playoffs, lived up to their billing last weekend by advancing in postseason play. In second round action, the top-seeded Reds turned back the Cardinals, 9-4, and the Astros blanked the Yankees, 2-0. Reds 9, Cardinals 4 Jeff Hann hit a three-run home run during a 3 for 3 performance, Jeff Roth had a two-RBI single, and Justin DeMarco doubled and singled for the Reds, who scored seven runs in the first three innings; Bryce Madsen had a two-run single, Aaron Roy had an RBI single, and relief pitcher Chad Blauer limited the reds to just two hits and one unearned run in three innings.

Ocean View Little League repeated as District 62 Majors Division champion, but this time, it was the Reds who won the Tournament of Champions, beating the Robinwood Brewers, 6-3, in the division final played June 28 at Ocean View. Last year, it was the Mets who brought the district banner to Ocean View. The 2000 championship game pitted teams with outstanding pitching staffs. Jeff Van Doornum started on the mound for Ocean View and gave up three runs in three innings.
