Spencer Layman scored three goals and added a pair of assists to the lead the way for the Roller Dogs in a 9-4 victory over the Roadrunners in Patrick Division action at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Also, Chris Avalos, who scored twice and Shane Galaviz scored once and had three assists, Jake Galaviz and Kevin Smit each had a goal and an assist, and Andy Wissel scored once. Jeremy Cacal had 31 saves. The Roller Dawgs took a 7-2 lead into the final period of play.

The Roadrunners scored six goals in the final two periods and used that surge to sprint past Campbell Division rival Dry Ice, 7-2, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Chad Sasaki led all scorers with three goals. Teammates Riley Draghi scored twice, and Erin Ozturk and Robert Becker each scored once. Draghi, Harrison Eggert and Tatum Coats each had an assist, and Trent Morsk had nine saves. Jimmy Martin scored both goals -- each unassisted -- for Dry Ice, and Luke Winstead finished with 17 saves.

Gregory Martin netted a match-best three goals and the Roadrunners notched another win in Patrick Division play by defeating the Postmen, 7-3, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Chad Morris, David Daley, Jordan Beideman and Michael Iacono also had one goal each to complete the Roadrunners' scoring. Christopher Romero led the team in assists with three. Brett Martin got the win on 17 saves. In other Patrick Division games: Chiefs 11, Timberwolves 4 Tyler Olsen scored four goals and Cameron Monahan scored three times and assisted four other goals to power the Chiefs.

The Roadrunners on Saturday overcame a slow start by finishing fast and went on to post an 8-4 victory over Blue Thunder. Matthew Steinhaus and Kyle Zekaria each scored three goals to lead the Roadrunners. Roland Moder and Matthew Stickler each scored once. The passing of Joel Gilbert and Anthony Nguyen aided the scoring. Andrew Flores, Nicholas Gregory and Daniel Resnick paced the defense and Joey Mena and Nicholas Carrigan made several saves in goal.

Nolan Strout scored an unassisted goal in an overtime shootout, allowing the Breakers to defeat the Rink Rats, 2-1, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. The victory keeps the Breakers alive in Campbell Division postseason play. Neither team could score through the first two periods. Kyle Breznau scored off an assist from Austin Heilman for the Rink Rats in the third period, and Ian Gibbons scored an unassisted goal for the Breakers.

The Patriots went on the defensive Saturday to claim a victory in AYSO Region 56 girls' 10-and-Under Division beating the Quick Silver Girls, 2-0. Rebecca Hernandez, Rachael Adair, Sarah Ruiz and Sierra Mirghanbari led the defensive effort. Dana Jorgensen opened up the scoring with a goal off a pass from Chelsea Raineri early in the first half. The second goal came when an Alex Arteriatno pass set up Rachel Pasternak, who put the ball in the net on a shot from just outside the penalty box. In other games: Lightning ties, loses The first half of the league season came to a close last weekend for the Huntington Beach Lightning, who battled Laguna Hills to a scoreless tie before falling to Mission Viejo, 4-2. Aubrie Fuette and Janet Peterson each scored a goal against Mission Viejo.

The AYSO Region 117 (Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley) soccer playoffs opened last weekend and the Rebels held off the Red Tide, 3-2, in boys' Under-12 Division play. Aaron Stratz scored twice, Scott Mackie scored once. Thomas Avent was a force on offense for the Rebels, but it was the strong defensive play of John Albert, Carter Caldwell, Dustin Crain and Colin Carroll that keyed the victory. In other games: Under-10 Division Roadrunners 3, Stampede 1 Matthew Steinhaus set up one goal and scored another as the Roadrunners won their playoff opener.

The Thunder laid claim to the Lemieux Division championship by edging the Avalanche, 4-3, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Sam Robinson posted three goals to lead all scorers and Matt Braun also scored for the Thunder. Robinson, Travis Murray and Jeffrey Kurokawa each had an assist. Brandon Rodriguez recorded 18 saves for the Thunder. Brett Martin's two goals and assist paced the Avalanche. Mats Degerstedt scored the other Avalanche goal, and Jaryd Mason had 20 saves.

The Roadrunners applied defensive pressure on the Rink Rats and never let up during their Campbell Division encounter at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center, scoring a 5-0 shutout victory. Goalie Trent Morsk recorded 14 saves in getting the shutout. Tatum Coats accounted for much of the match's scoring by posting the first four goals, three of which came in the second period. Chad Sasaki, who assisted the final three goals scored by Coats, scored the final goal for the Roadrunners.

Dylan Zeglovitch posted three goals and assisted two other scores to lead the Avalanche in their 8-7 victory over Raw Steel in an Atom Division game at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach. Harry Ellis and Ryan Humphrey each scored twice, Mike Pigors scored once with an assist and Ellis had an assist. Ryan Voorhies recorded 19 saves. Raw Steel's Travis Bertrand led all scorers with five goals. Sean Mastro and Matt Oyakawa each scored once and Kevin Bauman finished with 18 saves.
