Vic and I took off for Big Bear Lake on Christmas to enjoy the snow there. The roads were clear, but there were several inches of snow on the ground, making a beautiful scene. Our son Scott rented a large house on the lake so we could have our traditional post-Christmas snow play. It was large enough to hold the whole family — Scott, Nicole, Nicole's mother Maria and the three granddaughters, plus Vic and me. We made good use of the fireplace, keeping a cozy fire going from morning until bedtime.

Adriel and Aian Vissani plan to board an airplane for the first time in their lives in August 2011. And they don't expect the life-changing experience to end there. The twin brothers are among the members of St. Wilfrid's Episcopal Church in Huntington Beach flying to Arusha, Tanzania next summer to help renovate a school and soccer field. The Vissanis have been out of the country before when they went on church missions to Tijuana, but they expect the shock to be even greater when they land in the impoverished African country.

As actors prepare for the opening night of ?Oliver!? ? checking the lights and sound, making sure they don?t forget their lines and preparing for dress rehearsal ? 12-year-old Jake Olson is trying to memorize the set-up of the stage, so he doesn?t run into any props or scenery. During the play, Jake has the added challenge of remembering how to get around. Not only are the lights bright on stage and the theater dark between scenes, but he is also legally blind. Jake, who will appear in the play alongside his twin sister, Emma, will be taking the stage Friday for the first time since losing most of his vision.

My daughter-in-law Nicole Murray picked me up the other morning on her way from San Diego to Beverly Hills. Baby Megan is signed up with a modeling agency and has been getting lots of auditions, and even some paid work, most of it in L.A. Last week’s audition was for Old Navy. I often go along to watch the twins while Nicole and Megan are at the photo shoots. It’s a great excuse to see more of my grandbabies while Vic is teaching. As I got into the car, Lauren asked, “Where Papa Vic?
